Tubulin alpha pseudogene 8 (TUBAP8) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome. Unlike protein-coding tubulin alpha genes (such as TUBA8), pseudogenes like TUBAP8 are generally non-functional genomic DNA sequences that resemble known genes but lack coding potential, meaning they do not produce mRNA or functional proteins. They result from gene duplication or retrotransposition but have acquired mutations or regulatory changes preventing expression. As such, TUBAP8 has no known biological function, disease role, interacting drugs, or valid target status. It should not be confused with bona fide protein-coding members of the tubulin alpha family involved in microtubule function[1][5].
