Tubulin alpha pseudogene 9 (TUBAP9) is annotated in genome databases as a pseudogene of the alpha-tubulin gene family, often listed as tubulin alpha 1c pseudogene (TUBAP9). Pseudogenes are DNA sequences closely related to functional genes but are generally non-coding and considered non-functional remnants of gene duplication events or retrotransposition. They do not encode active protein products and are not recognized as biologically relevant drug targets, biomarkers, or receptors. The alpha-tubulin family, which includes functional genes like TUBA1A and TUBA4A, is essential for cytoskeletal structure and neurodevelopment, but TUBAP9 itself is not known to have any biological function or disease involvement. As such, it is not considered a therapeutic target. TUBAP9 is a pseudogene and does not produce a functional protein. It is not categorized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic drug target. Functional alpha-tubulin genes (such as TUBA1A, TUBA1B, TUBA1C) are critical for microtubule formation and neurological development, but pseudogenes like TUBAP9 do not participate in these processes. Referencing it as a drug target or receptor is misleading. If treatment, drug development, or biological function is the focus, actual alpha-tubulin genes (e.g., TUBA1A, TUBA1B) should be used instead. Since TUBAP9 does not encode a protein or play a biological role, there are no drugs that target it, no disease involvement or biomarker status, and no safety concerns described.
