Overview

Tubulin beta 3 class III pseudogene 1 (TUBB3P1) is a pseudogene, meaning it shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene TUBB3 but contains mutations or deletions that prevent it from encoding the neurally expressed βIII-tubulin protein. While some pseudogenes can play regulatory roles in gene expression, such effects for TUBB3P1 have not been described. Because it cannot produce a functional protein, TUBB3P1 is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker. Information about βIII-tubulin (TUBB3) and its roles in microtubule dynamics, neurogenesis, cancer, and drug resistance is widely available, but these functions do not apply to TUBB3P1, which is a non-coding pseudogene. Key clarification: The name TUBB3P1 can be confused with TUBB3 (the functional gene). Drug targeting, biological function, and disease roles described for βIII-tubulin (TUBB3) are not relevant to TUBB3P1. For drug discovery and therapeutic literature, only the functional TUBB3 (not pseudogene TUBB3P1) is considered actionable.

Biological functions

Other (Most pseudogenes, including TUBB3P1, do not have known direct biological functions; some pseudogenes can regulate parental gene expression through miRNA decoy effects, but no evidence supports this for TUBB3P1 specifically)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease roles; pseudogene expression profile and regulatory potential for some pseudogenes is described—see PTENP1, KRASP1, but TUBB3P1 has not been characterized for such activity)
