Overview

Tubulin beta 7 pseudogene (TUBB7P) is a human pseudogene related to the beta-tubulin gene family but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or mutation of functional genes and typically lack coding capability. TUBB7P exhibits high sequence homology with other beta-tubulin family members, such as beta2-tubulin, but possesses mutations that prevent protein expression[5]. TUBB7P is sometimes detected in gene expression studies; its low expression has been observed in various cell lines and tumor tissues, including a significant downregulation in breast cancer relative to normal tissue[1]. However, as a pseudogene, TUBB7P does not serve a known functional, biochemical, or therapeutic role and is not considered for drug targeting[3][4][6].

Biological functions

Other (no known biological function; does not encode protein)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association; expression profiling studies show altered levels in breast cancer tissue, but as a pseudogene, its functional significance is unclear and likely indirect[1])
04

Biomarkers

TUBB7P was found to be downregulated in breast cancer tumor tissue compared to normal breast tissue, but as a pseudogene, its value as a clinical biomarker is unclear and not established[1].
