Tubulin beta 8 class VIII pseudogene 5 (TUBB8P5) is a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but are nonfunctional due to mutations or gene processing events, and they do not encode functional proteins. TUBB8P5 is related by sequence similarity to the tubulin beta gene family, which encodes vital structural components of the cytoskeleton, but TUBB8P5 itself is noncoding and does not contribute to tubulin protein function[9][7][4][5]. Pseudogenes like TUBB8P5 may occasionally be transcribed at a low level, but they are not considered biologically active and are not targets for therapeutic drug development[5].
