Overview

Tubulin beta chain (parasitic) is a major component of the cytoskeleton in protozoan parasites such as *Plasmodium falciparum* and *Toxoplasma gondii*.[4][7] Together with alpha-tubulin, it forms microtubules that are essential for parasite cell division, shape, intracellular motility, and host cell invasion.[4][5][6] Parasitic β-tubulin exhibits unique sequence features and is often functionally distinct from human β-tubulin, enabling development of selective inhibitors that target parasite proliferation.[2][5] Tubulin-targeting drugs interfere with microtubule assembly or dynamics, thereby blocking parasite replication or motility, making β-tubulin a validated therapeutic target for anti-parasitic intervention.[2][5]
