Tubulin beta class I pseudogene 9 (TUBBP9) is a processed pseudogene related to the tubulin beta class I (TUBB) gene. Pseudogenes are genomically encoded DNA sequences that resemble known protein-coding genes but lack the capacity to encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations, missing regulatory elements, or truncations. The TUBB gene encodes beta tubulin, a major component of microtubules, but TUBBP9 is a non-functional, non-coding copy. There is no evidence that TUBBP9 produces a functional protein or acts as a therapeutic drug target.
