Overview

Tubulin beta pseudogene 5 (TUBBP5) is a non-coding genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene related to the beta-tubulin gene family.[4][5] Unlike the functional tubulin beta genes, TUBBP5 does not encode a protein product, and available databases and literature designate it as a pseudogene derived from ancestral beta-tubulin sequences. TUBBP5 has numerous associations in omics datasets, but these do not reflect protein-coding function or druggability. It is not cataloged as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic target class.[4][5] TUBBP5 may sometimes appear in differential gene expression or epigenomic datasets, but this reflects regulatory or genomic proximity rather than protein function. The existence of many beta-tubulin pseudogenes has been noted in human chromosomes; these do not participate in canonical tubulin or microtubule activity, which are mediated by functional tubulin genes such as TUBB.[1][5][6]
