Overview

Tubulin polymerization protein subunit beta class I (TUBB) is a key component of microtubules, which are essential for cell division, intracellular transport, and cell shape. It is a major drug target for anti-mitotic chemotherapeutics like paclitaxel, colchicine and vinca alkaloids, which disrupt microtubule dynamics and spindle formation, leading to apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells. Mutations in TUBB can disrupt vesicle trafficking or alter microtubule dynamics, leading to disease phenotypes.
