Tubulin subunit alpha is one of the two main protein components that form microtubules, essential cytoskeletal structures in eukaryotic cells. Microtubules are dynamic, hollow cylinders composed of linear protofilaments made from repeating α- and β-tubulin heterodimers. These structures provide mechanical support, serve as tracks for intracellular transport, and play critical roles in cell division and other cellular processes. It is a validated target for anti-cancer drugs due to its central role in mitosis.
