The tubulin tyrosine ligase-like family, member 1 pseudogene (TTLL1 pseudogene; ENSG00000278106) is a genomic DNA sequence that bears high sequence similarity to the functional TTLL1 gene, which encodes an enzyme involved in the post-translational modification of tubulin. However, this pseudogene is nonfunctional: it does not encode a protein product and does not have biological activity. Pseudogenes typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and lose their protein-coding ability due to mutations over evolutionary time. They can complicate genetic analyses due to their similarity to functional genes, but are not considered viable targets for drug development or disease association research[4][5].
