Overview

Tumor angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature to supply nutrients and oxygen to tumors, enabling their growth and metastasis. This process is driven by pro-angiogenic factors released by tumor cells and surrounding host cells, stimulating endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation. It is essential for sustained tumor growth, metabolic support, waste removal, and facilitates metastasis. While targeting angiogenesis is a major therapeutic strategy, challenges remain due to tumor heterogeneity and adaptive resistance mechanisms.
