Tumor antigen-presenting dendritic cells (DCs) are a specialized subset of immune cells that play a central role in initiating and regulating anti-tumor immune responses. As professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs), DCs capture, process, and present tumor-derived antigens to T lymphocytes—particularly cytotoxic CD8+ T cells—thereby orchestrating both innate and adaptive immunity against cancer. Effective anti-tumor immunity depends on the presence and function of these antigen-presenting DCs within tumors or draining lymph nodes. High levels of stimulatory intratumoral DCs correlate with improved patient survival across several cancers. Dysfunctional or immature states induced by the suppressive tumor microenvironment can impair their ability to activate effective anti-tumor T-cell responses, contributing to immune evasion by tumors.
