Tumor antigen-specific cytotoxic T cell response

Molecular classification
Immune Response
01

Overview

A tumor antigen-specific cytotoxic T cell response refers to the activation and function of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), primarily CD8+ T cells, that specifically recognize and target antigens expressed by tumor cells. These responses are central to the immune system’s ability to identify and destroy cancerous cells while sparing normal tissues. The response involves the recognition of tumor antigens presented on MHC class I, leading to target cell lysis via perforin/granzyme and Fas/FasL pathways, as well as cytokine secretion. This response can be therapeutically manipulated with vaccines and adoptive cell therapies. Key markers include CXCL13 and ENTPD1 for identifying tumor-antigen specific T cells (Tas).
