Tumor-associated antigen (TAA) mimicry via the anti-idiotype mechanism refers to an immunological strategy where anti-idiotype antibodies (Ab2) are used to mimic tumor antigens, thereby stimulating an immune response against cancer cells. This approach leverages the idiotypic network theory. When an antibody (Ab1) is generated against a TAA, a secondary antibody (Ab2) can be produced that recognizes and binds to the idiotope of Ab1. Some Ab2s structurally resemble the original TAA and thus act as "internal images" of these antigens. It can overcome immune tolerance to self-antigens, induces both humoral and cellular immunity, and potentially generates long-lasting immune memory.
