Tumor-associated antigen presentation by autologous dendritic cells

01

Overview

Tumor-associated antigen presentation by autologous dendritic cells refers to a therapeutic strategy where a patient's own dendritic cells are harvested, loaded ex vivo with antigens derived from their tumor, and then reintroduced into the patient to stimulate the immune system, particularly T cells, to recognize and attack cancer cells. This approach leverages the ability of DCs to capture, process, and present tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) on MHC molecules, leading to the activation of cytotoxic CD8+ T cells and subsequent anti-tumor responses. Clinical studies have shown promise in various cancers, including melanoma and glioblastoma, demonstrating durable regressions, improved progression-free survival, and increased overall survival in some patients.
