Tumor-associated antigen (TAA) presentation via dendritic cells (DCs) is a central process in the initiation and regulation of anti-tumor immune responses. Dendritic cells are professional antigen-presenting cells that capture, process, and present tumor-derived antigens to T lymphocytes, thereby bridging innate and adaptive immunity. This function is critical for priming cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) capable of targeting and eliminating tumor cells. Effective presentation of TAAs by DCs is essential for generating robust anti-tumor CTL responses that control tumor growth and metastasis. Therapeutic strategies aim either to restore/improve endogenous dendritic cell function within tumors or utilize ex vivo-generated autologous dendritic cell vaccines loaded with TAAs. These approaches seek enhanced priming of effective anti-tumor CTLs—often synergizing with other immunotherapies such as checkpoint inhibitors.
