Tumor-Associated Antigen-Presenting Cell Activation

Molecular classification
Cellular Process, Immune Checkpoint
01

Overview

Tumor-associated antigen-presenting cell (APC) activation refers to the process by which APCs within the tumor microenvironment are stimulated to effectively capture, process, and present tumor antigens to T cells. This activation is crucial for initiating and sustaining anti-tumor immune responses, particularly in cancer immunotherapy settings. Strategies include using nanoparticles or nanovesicles loaded with tumor antigens and adjuvants that specifically target APCs to enhance their activation and prolong antigen presence within these cells; modulating signaling pathways such as STAT3 in myeloid-cell populations to restore or boost their activity as effective APCs; and combining checkpoint inhibitors with agents that activate APCs can synergistically increase infiltration of activated CD8+ T-cells into tumors and promote adaptive immunity.
