Overview

Tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) are molecules present at elevated levels on tumor cells but may also be found at lower levels on some normal cells. Patient-specific TAAs arise from unique mutations or expression patterns within an individual’s tumor and represent personalized therapeutic targets for immunotherapies such as monoclonal antibodies, cancer vaccines, and adoptive cell therapies. The ideal TAA target should have high differential expression between tumor and normal tissue, be essential for tumor survival, and elicit a robust immune response without causing significant autoimmunity.
