Tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) M2 polarization refers to the differentiation of macrophages within the tumor microenvironment (TME) into an alternatively activated (M2) phenotype. This polarization is driven by factors such as IL-4, IL-13, IL-10, TGF-β, and CSF1/M-CSF. M2-polarized TAMs exhibit pro-tumoral functions, including immune suppression, angiogenesis promotion, and tissue remodeling, ultimately contributing to tumor growth, metastasis, and drug resistance. Targeting TAM M2 polarization is a promising therapeutic strategy for cancer.
