Overview

Tumor-associated melanoma antigens constitute a set of proteins, peptides, or glycoproteins that are abnormally or preferentially expressed by melanoma tumor cells, with some representatives also found in normal tissues (particularly testis, placenta, or melanocytes)[1][2][3][5][6]. They encompass families such as MAGE (cancer-testis antigens), melanoma differentiation antigens (MelanA/MART1, gp100, TRP1/TRP2), and unique mutated neo-antigens[3][4][5][6]. These antigens are central to immune recognition of melanoma and are used as therapeutic targets in cancer vaccine development, adoptive T-cell therapies, and as biomarkers. The challenge is their frequent expression on some normal cells, leading to potential autoimmune toxicity when therapies target them[2][3][6].
