Overview

Tumor-associated proteases are a diverse group of enzymes that play critical roles in cancer progression, including tumor initiation, growth, invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis. These proteases are often upregulated or dysregulated in the tumor microenvironment and contribute to the remodeling of extracellular matrix (ECM), activation of growth factors, modulation of cell adhesion molecules, and regulation of signaling pathways essential for cancer cell survival and dissemination. Major classes include Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase (ADAM) Family, Serine Proteases, Cysteine Proteases, aspartic proteases and threonine proteases.
