Tumor Cell Antigen

Molecular classification
Protein, Peptide, Glycoprotein, Glycolipid, Cell Surface Antigen
01

Overview

Tumor cell antigens are molecules expressed by tumor cells that can be recognized by the immune system, triggering an immune response. These antigens can be tumor-specific (TSAs) or tumor-associated (TAAs) and serve as targets for immunotherapies and biomarkers for cancer detection and monitoring. The ideal target should be expressed with sufficient density and homogeneity on the surface of tumor cells with minimal expression on normal tissues to reduce off-target toxicity. Cancer cells can develop mechanisms to evade immune detection by altering antigen processing/presentation pathways.

Mechanism of action

Targeting these antigens allows for the specific delivery of cytotoxic agents or immune stimulation directly to cancer cells, or marking cancer cells for immune destruction.
