Overview

“Tumor cell-associated antigen” is a general term describing any antigen that is present on the surface of tumor cells. Tumor antigens are generally divided into two categories: tumor-specific antigens (TSAs), unique to cancer cells, and tumor-associated antigens (TAAs), which are present at higher levels in tumor cells but may also be found in some normal tissues[1][2][3]. Examples of antigens in this class include mutated proteins (e.g., mutant p53), proteins overexpressed in tumors, oncoviral proteins, and oncofetal antigens. These antigens are important in immuno-oncology as therapeutic targets, but the term itself does not refer to a single molecular entity and as such cannot provide structured target information for drug discovery[1][2][3][4].
