Tumor cell lysis via viral oncolysis refers to the process by which oncolytic viruses (OVs) selectively infect, replicate within, and destroy cancer cells. This mechanism exploits the unique vulnerabilities of tumor cells—such as defective antiviral responses and altered surface receptors—allowing OVs to preferentially target malignant tissue while sparing normal cells. Effectiveness stems from both direct destruction of infected tumor cells and stimulation/modulation of host immune responses against residual disease.
