Tumor cell targeting via heptamethine carbocyanine dye uptake mechanism

Molecular classification
Uptake mechanism, Dye-mediated targeting, OATP-dependent uptake
01

Overview

Heptamethine carbocyanine dyes (HMCDs) are near-infrared fluorescent compounds that are preferentially taken up by tumor cells due to factors like upregulated OATP transporters, tumor hypoxia-induced HIF-1α activation, and the EPR effect. This selective uptake is exploited for tumor imaging and targeted drug delivery.
