Overview

Targeting tumor cells through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a therapeutic strategy that exploits the unique redox biology of cancer. It aims to elevate intratumoral ROS above the cytotoxic threshold, leveraging the fact that cancer cells are often near their maximum tolerable oxidative stress level. This can be achieved by boosting intracellular oxidants or disabling antioxidant defenses. This approach leverages fundamental differences between cancerous and healthy tissues' redox homeostasis for selective therapy development.
