Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha Converting Enzyme (ADAM17)

Target
ADAM17
Molecular classification
Metalloprotease, Type I transmembrane protein, Enzyme
01

Overview

ADAM17, also known as TACE, is a zinc-dependent metalloprotease responsible for the ectodomain shedding of numerous cell surface proteins, including TNF-alpha, interleukin 6 receptor, EGFR ligands and Notch receptors. This proteolytic activity plays critical roles in inflammation, immune responses, cell signaling, development, and tissue remodeling. Dysregulation of ADAM17 is implicated in several diseases, including chronic inflammatory conditions and cancer, making it a therapeutic target. Its activity is tightly regulated and its inhibition can have diverse biological effects.
