Tumor necrosis factor alpha receptor 1 (TNFR1) is a cell surface receptor that primarily binds tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), a key cytokine involved in inflammation, immune regulation, and cell death. TNFR1 is part of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily and plays a central role in mediating the biological effects of TNF-α, including pro-inflammatory signaling, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and regulation of immune responses. Aberrant or excessive activation contributes to chronic inflammatory diseases, autoimmune disorders, cancer progression or suppression depending on context, metabolic syndromes, neurodegeneration, among others.
