Overview

Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 10 (TNFSF10), also known as TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand) and CD253, is a cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. It plays a critical role in inducing apoptosis, particularly in tumor cells. It binds to death receptors (TRAILR1 and TRAILR2) to initiate apoptosis and decoy receptors (TRAILR3, TRAILR4, OPG) that modulate its activity. While it has shown promise as an anti-cancer therapeutic due to its selective ability to induce tumor cell death, clinical trials have yielded limited success.
