Overview

Tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) is a type I transmembrane protein and a key receptor mediating the effects of TNFα. Upon ligand binding, it initiates diverse signaling pathways leading to inflammation, apoptosis, or necroptosis, depending on the cellular context. Its functions include activation of transcription factors such as NF-kB and regulation of immune responses, cell proliferation, survival, differentiation, and programmed cell death. Mutations in TNFRSF1A are associated with diseases like TRAPS and increased risk for multiple sclerosis.
