Overview

“Tumor neoantigen-presenting cells” describes immune cells—primarily dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells—that process and present tumor-specific neoantigens (novel peptides generated by somatic mutations in cancer cells) via MHC molecules to T lymphocytes. This antigen presentation is critical for the initiation and maintenance of tumor-specific T-cell-mediated immune responses, underlies the mechanism of many immunotherapies, and is a focus of vaccine and adoptive T-cell transfer strategies. Importantly, this is not a discrete molecule, protein, or receptor, but rather a descriptor of cell function and phenotype.
