Tumor protein p53-inducible protein 3 (PIG3) is a p53-regulated gene product and oxidoreductase enzyme involved in the cellular oxidative stress response and induction of apoptosis. It is transcriptionally activated by p53 and contains a consensus p53 binding site in its promoter, with its expression modulated by microsatellite polymorphisms. PIG3 catalyzes NADPH-dependent reduction of quinones, generating reactive oxygen species, and is considered an effector of p53-mediated cell death and tumor suppression. High expression is linked to better prognosis in some cancers such as glioblastoma, making it a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target[1][3][5][8].
