Tumor-Specific Mutant Protein-Derived Antigen (Neoantigen)

Target
Neoantigen
Molecular classification
Peptide, Protein fragment, Antigen
01

Overview

A tumor-specific mutant protein-derived antigen, often referred to as a neoantigen, is a peptide or protein fragment that arises from somatic mutations unique to cancer cells. These antigens are not present in normal tissues and result from genetic alterations such as point mutations, insertions, deletions, or gene fusions within the tumor genome. Because they are exclusive to tumor cells and absent in healthy tissue, these antigens can be recognized by the immune system as "non-self," making them highly attractive targets for cancer immunotherapy.
