Tumor-specific T lymphocyte activation refers to the process by which T cells of the immune system are specifically activated to recognize and attack tumor cells. This is a central mechanism in cancer immunology and underpins many immunotherapeutic strategies, including adoptive cell transfer and immune checkpoint blockade. The process involves antigen recognition via MHC molecules, co-stimulatory signals, and cytokine environment. Full activation leads to CD8+ CTL-mediated killing of tumor cells and CD4+ helper T cell-mediated orchestration of broader immune responses. The ability to elicit robust tumor-specific T cell responses forms the basis for immune checkpoint inhibitors and adoptive transfer therapies.
