Tumor vasculature refers to the network of blood vessels that supply nutrients and oxygen to tumor tissues. Unlike normal vasculature, tumor blood vessels are structurally and functionally abnormal, characterized by disorganized architecture, irregular branching, high permeability, and poor perfusion. These abnormalities arise from an imbalance between pro-angiogenic and anti-angiogenic signals within the tumor microenvironment.
Antiangiogenic agents inhibit new blood vessel formation; vascular disrupting agents destroy existing abnormal vessels; vasoactive agents temporarily normalize or alter vascular permeability.
