Overview

APRIL/TNFSF13 is a cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor superfamily that plays a crucial role in B cell development, particularly in supporting the long-term survival of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It interacts primarily with BCMA and TACI, and in vitro studies suggest it can also induce apoptosis via other receptors. APRIL is implicated in various diseases, including cancer and autoimmune conditions.

Mechanism of action

APRIL binds to receptors BCMA and TACI to modulate B cell survival and proliferation. It may also interact with FAS/TNFRSF6 and HVEM/TNFRSF14 under certain conditions to induce apoptosis.
