Target intelligence / Profile preview

Tumour suppressor protein p53 (TP53)

Target
TP53
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Tumor suppressor
01

Overview

TP53 encodes the tumor suppressor protein p53, a transcription factor that regulates cell division and prevents uncontrolled cell proliferation. It plays a central role in maintaining genomic stability by responding to cellular stresses, inducing cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, senescence, or DNA repair. Mutations in TP53 are the most common genetic alterations in human cancers, leading to loss-of-function or gain-of-function effects that promote tumor development.
