TXN2 pseudogene 1 (TXN2P1) is a genomic DNA sequence homologous to the protein-coding TXN2 (thioredoxin 2) gene but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically accumulate mutations that prevent protein expression. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed into non-coding RNAs, there is no evidence that TXN2 pseudogene 1 plays a functional biological or disease role or serves as a therapeutic target. Information about the protein-coding TXN2 gene is not applicable to the pseudogene. "TXN2 pseudogene 1" is not to be confused with the functional gene "Thioredoxin 2 (TXN2)". Therapeutic interest pertains to TXN2, not its pseudogenes. Current genomic and functional databases do not identify TXN2P1 as a validated therapeutic or biomarker target; its only role is as a marker of genomic architecture. For TXN2 pseudogene 1, it should generally be considered a non-target, non-functional locus.
