Overview

The type-2 angiotensin II receptor (AT2), encoded by the AGTR2 gene, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds angiotensin II. Unlike the AT1 receptor, which mediates vasoconstriction and cell proliferation, the AT2 receptor generally counteracts these effects, promoting vasodilation, anti-proliferation, and apoptosis. It plays a role in cardiovascular and renal regulation and is implicated in various diseases, including hypertension and heart failure. Targeting AT2 therapeutically may offer protective effects against AT1-mediated organ damage.
