Type 2 Immune Reaction Pathway

Molecular classification
Immune signaling pathway
01

Overview

The type 2 immune reaction pathway is a coordinated immune response primarily characterized by the activation and differentiation of CD4+ T helper type 2 (Th2) cells. This pathway is central to host defense against extracellular parasites, such as helminths, and plays a major role in allergic diseases like asthma and atopic dermatitis. The hallmark of this response is the production of specific cytokines—most notably interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-5, IL-9, and IL-13—which orchestrate downstream effector functions.
