Type I protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) are a subfamily of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to arginine residues in proteins, resulting in monomethylarginine and asymmetric dimethylarginine.
