PcrV is a key protein component of the type III secretion system (T3SS) in *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. It is located at the tip of the T3SS needle complex and is essential for the assembly and function of the translocon, which forms a pore in host cell membranes for effector delivery. PcrV facilitates the integration of PopB and PopD into eukaryotic cell membranes, enabling efficient translocation of toxic effectors. Antibodies against PcrV can neutralize its function, making it an attractive vaccine candidate and a target for monoclonal antibody therapies. Humanized monoclonal antibodies targeting PcrV (e.g., COT-143) are under investigation for clinical use.
