Target intelligence / Profile preview
Collagen type VII is a specialized collagen protein that forms anchoring fibrils at the dermal-epidermal junction in skin and other stratified squamous epithelia. It plays a critical structural role in maintaining skin integrity and resistance to mechanical stress. Mutations or autoimmune targeting of type VII collagen lead to severe blistering diseases such as dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa and epidermolysis bullosa acquisita.
