Fyn is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the Src family kinases (SFKs). It plays a crucial role in various cellular signaling pathways, including cell growth, motility, adhesion, and immune responses. While normally acting as a tumor suppressor, Fyn can contribute to oncogenic transformation and cancer progression in certain contexts, particularly in gliomas. It is also implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. Fyn phosphorylates target proteins to regulate their activity, impacting signaling cascades downstream of cell surface receptors. Inhibitors targeting its ATP-binding site are being explored for therapeutic applications in neurological disorders and cancers.
