MET, also known as the hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR), is a proto-oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a critical role in regulating cellular processes such as proliferation, survival, morphogenesis, and motility. The endogenous ligand for MET is hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). Mutations or amplification of MET are associated with various cancers including papillary renal cell carcinoma. Both germline mutations/SNPs and somatic mutations have been reported to drive oncogenic transformation via aberrant MET signaling.
