Tyrosine-protein kinase non-receptor type 1 refers to a class of cytosolic enzymes known as non-receptor tyrosine kinases (nRTKs). These enzymes catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to tyrosine residues on substrate proteins, playing critical roles in cellular signaling pathways that regulate growth, proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, migration, and apoptosis. Unlike receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), which are membrane-bound and activated by extracellular ligands, nRTKs function within the cytoplasm and are activated by various intracellular signals. Upon activation by upstream signals or receptor engagement (e.g., immune response receptors or integrins), these kinases phosphorylate specific substrates on tyrosine residues. This phosphorylation event can activate downstream signaling molecules or transcription factors that mediate cellular responses such as gene expression changes or cytoskeletal rearrangement. Due to their central role in regulating key cellular processes—and their dysregulation being linked to diseases such as cancer—non-receptor tyrosine kinases are considered important therapeutic targets. Inhibitors targeting specific nRTKs have been developed for clinical use against certain cancers.
