Overview

Tyrosine-protein kinase STYK1 (STYK1) is an atypical protein kinase with putative serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase activity. It shows transforming capabilities in various cell lines and is strongly overexpressed in several malignancies, including castration-resistant prostate cancer and cervix carcinoma. STYK1 may promote tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis, likely by activating MAP kinase and PI3K pathways. Although classified as a receptor protein kinase, it lacks a canonical DFG motif and has questionable kinase activity in vitro, but cell studies indicate a growth-promoting oncogenic role. No clinically approved drugs specifically target STYK1 as of 2024; however, its role in cancer progression suggests it is a promising drug target under early investigation[1][2][3][5].
