Overview

U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70 kDa subunit (SNRNP70, U1-70K) is a major component of the U1 snRNP particle, which forms part of the spliceosome—the multi-protein/RNA complex responsible for recognition of pre-mRNA splice sites and facilitating both constitutive and alternative splicing[4][5]. SNRNP70 includes a canonical RNA recognition motif (RRM) allowing it to bind U1 snRNA, multiple protein-protein interaction domains for binding SR and Sm proteins, and distinct structural regions that wrap around the Sm core of the U1 snRNP to stabilize its assembly[1][6]. U1-70K is critical for pre-mRNA maturation, and dysregulation or autoimmune targeting of this protein has been implicated in connective tissue diseases, lupus, and certain cancers[2][3]. SNRNP70 is predominantly nuclear, and its expression correlates with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma, suggesting potential as a prognostic biomarker and a molecular player in tumor biology[2]. No small molecules or direct pharmacological ligands currently target SNRNP70 therapeutically.

Mechanism of action
