U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (SNRPC)

Target
SNRPC
Molecular classification
small nuclear ribonucleoprotein, RNA-binding protein, spliceosomal component
01

Overview

U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (SNRPC) is an RNA-binding protein that is a core component of the spliceosomal U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, essential for accurate recognition of the pre-mRNA 5' splice sites and subsequent assembly of the spliceosome during mRNA splicing. It plays a major role in initiating pre-mRNA processing by stabilizing U1 snRNP recruitment and directly interacting with splice site regulatory proteins[1][3][6][7]. SNRPC can act as an autoantigen, with autoantibodies against it detected in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus[3]. It has also been implicated in cancer cell motility, specifically in promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition in hepatocellular carcinoma[4][5]. There are currently no approved drugs that directly target SNRPC, and its primary roles are structural and regulatory within the spliceosome, not as a conventional druggable therapeutic target.
